Trans World Radio-India compelling its employees to convert

Trans World Radio-India compelling its employees to convert

The victims are permanent employees of TWR-India having services from eight to 18 years. They belong to Balmiki community and work as Safai Karmachari.

?We are told that the institution has stopped getting aid for the Hindu employees and if you wish to draw your salary as Hindu employee collect donations. We have been given receipt books to collect donations. We are still being told that if we adopt Christianity we shall get higher salary and other facilities,? alleged Lal Singh.

Innocent and gullible Hindus are exploited by the Christian missionaries not only in remote areas but also in metro cities like the national capital, New Delhi. The racket of converting innocent Hindus to Christianity has been flourishing in Delhi and the surrounding areas for decades. So much so that the evangelists have become so brash and impudent that a Christian institution?Trans World Radio, India (TWR, India)?started compelling its Hindu employees to Christianity. When the employees outrightly rejected the proposal of their employer they were tortured in very inhuman ways and some of them were even sacked from their jobs. Those who are still in the service are being subjected to ruthless, inhuman torture every day and are denied even the weekly off or holidays on festivals.

These employees have been served three months of ultimatum on March 23, to either embrace Christianity or quit the job. ?We are working in very inhuman conditions. Though the management has five days a week office, we are denied even the weekly off on Sundays and other festivals like Holi, Deepavali, Republic Day, Independence Day or even Christmas. Everyday we are tortured through different methods. Life has become hell for us and nobody is ready to listen to our woes. We were warned on March 23 to embrace Christianity within three months or resign from the job,? alleges Lal Singh Yadav, a cleaner in TWR-India. He said the TWR-India adopted all means?allurement of money, promotion, etc. as well as threat to remove from the jobs, if the non-Christian employees do not embrace Christianity.

Now the employees are denied even their salary and they have been told to collect donations if they wish to draw salary at the end of the month. ?We are told that the institution has stopped getting aid for the Hindu employees and if you wish to draw your salary as a Hindu employee collect donations. We have been given receipt books to collect donations. We are constantly being told that if we become Christian we shall get higher salary and other facilities,? alleged Lal Singh.

Meanwhile, the victims approached the Court of Metropolitan Magistrate, New Delhi, requesting to save them from the forced conversion. The court summoned the culprits and granted bail on March 28. According to the petition filed by the five employees of TWR-India (Ram Babu, Ghanshyam, Munna, Lal Singh and Hari Prasad) the officers of the TWR-India particularly Smt. Christine Swaroop Raj (Director HR), Smt Vinita Sahai (CEO), Smt. Dezy Sem, Supervisor, Shri Shakti Verma (Technical Director), have been pressuring and torturing them for the last few years to convert to Christianity.

Passing adverse comments upon Hinduism that Hinduism has many castes and the upper castes do not accept the lower caste i.e. Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes is a daily routine there. In the month of June 2007, Smt. Vinita Sahai told Ram Babu, ?Tum chamar chuhde aise hi kutte ki tarah rahoge aur tumeh sab kuchh jhelna parega agar tum isse bachna chahte ho to apna dharma badal kar Christian ban jao. When Ram Babu requested her not to comment like this she got furious and repeated the comment.

In the month of August 2007, Smt. Dezy Sen told Ghanshyam to convey to all the Hindu employees that hereafter they would have to take their meals only by sitting near the toilet. When Ghanshyam wanted to know the reason, she got infuriated and said, ?Tum log bhangi ho aur tumeh toilet ke paas hi baith kar khana parega aur agar tum aisa nahin karoge to tumeh naukri se nikal diya jayega.? Thereafter the victims were forced to sit near the toilet in foul smell and were compelled to take their meals there only. The victims tolerated it, as they do not have any other source of income.

In October 2007, Ram Babu approached Shri Shakti Verma and apprised him of the maltreatment and harassment meted out to them and very humbly requested him to request the management not to harass them. But to the utmost shock and surprise, Shri Verma started abusing him in filthy language saying, ??tum sab chure chamaron ko jute maar kar bahar nikalenge.? The management of TWR-India levelled false allegations against Ram Babu for misbehaving with the seniors and also not performing the duties properly. A false and frivolous inquiry was ordered against him and finally he was removed from the job. All the five victims were frequently called bhangi ka kutta. Not only this, the victims were called in the office by the accused persons and were made to sit for hours and were harassed and pressurised to convert their religion against their wish.

The victims were boycotted socially and were treated discriminately as neither they are allowed to sit along with other employees specially the Christian employees of the management nor they are allowed to interact with them. They adversely commented that until and unless they change their religion they would be treated in the same fashion and even may be worse than that. The aggrieved victims also lodged complaint with the Police Station in Hauz Khas with copies to DCP South, Lt. Governor of Delhi and Human Right Commission on January 10, 2008, but in vain.

On January 15, 2008, Smt. Christine Swaroop Raj called Lal Singh in her office and straight-way started abusing on the pretext that why they lodged complaint against them. Lal Singh humbly apprised her of the harassment they were being subjected. But instead of paying any heed to the complaint of Lal Singh, she burst into anger and said, ?Ya to tum sabhi bhangi-chamaron ko Christian banna parega nahin to main tumeh naukri se nikaal dungi.? The victims also approached the Labour Commissioner, SHO and National Commission for SC/ST but of no avail so far.

The victims are harassed every day. Ram Babu had been appointed as Attender in 1993 and instead of promoting to further higher rank, he was down graded to cleaner without any cause, reason or fault on his part. ?One day I inadvertently touched the meals prepared for the persons attending a meeting. I was not only abused by the incharge but also was pushed away using very filthy language,? alleges Ghanshyam. When the Hindu employees went to the court, the management transferred them to Chennai, where they are allegedly being tortured not only by them but also by the local police.

Evolution of the Semitic faiths

Think It Over

Evolution of the Semitic faiths
By MSN Menon

The Bible remains an interesting document on how the idea of God evolved.

The Bible presents us with a succession of gods, each a striking improvement on the previous ones, making it possible for us to have a nobler and deeper vision of God. But it all began with tribal gods and human sacrifices. The Semitic faiths are almost ashamed of their gods today. They prefer their Prophets.

The God of Noah was not the God of Job. Noah?s God was an angry and punishing God. The God of Job was argumentative and philosophic. Job raised the problem of evil, but left it unexplained. Micah threw out Noah?s God. He did not left it unexplained. Mioach threw out Noah?s God. He did not even preserve Job?s God. He denounced blood sacrifice. He asks the Jews: ?What doth the Lord require of thee but to do justly and to love mercy and to walk humbly with thy God??And when we come to Jesus, he overturned everything. He was for non-violence. His God was a God of compassion, mercy and forgiveness. Allah is still a punishing God. His evolution has been very slow.

The Jews invented the myth that only one religion could be true. That is their religion. They invented another myth: that they were the ?chosen people? of God. These assertions had calamitous consequences for the world, and to Jews in particular.

Judaism gave birth to Christianity and Islam. It gave to Christianity its ethical passion and a sense of superiority. The Romans gave it their organising ability and the desire for world domination. And Judaism gave to Islam its dogmatism and fanaticism.

After Emperor Constantine, Christianity became intolerant of all other faiths. Life became a ?fleeting show on earth?, beauty a ?mere pleasure? and a ?temptation? and abstinence the highest ?virtue.? St. Augustine gave the dictum: ?If any man come to me and hate not his father and mother, and wife and children, and brothers and sisters, yea and his own life also, he cannot be my disciple.? Here is the source of Christian intolerance. With that Europe went into the Dark Ages. Reformation broke the religious spell and Renaissance brought back the spirit of free enquiry.

With Renaissance the scientific age was also born?the new world of Copernicus and Columbus, of Luther and Calvin of Galileo and Descartes. The sky changed with Copernicus and the earth with the explorers! Man moved from the religious certainties of the past to scientific certainties of the mechanical world of Newton. The infallibility of the Church gave way to scientific reasoning. Many of the restrictions men lived by gave way to libertine morals. Renaissance broke up the power of the Papacy and established Protestantism.

The history of the last five hundred years saw a simultaneous growth of political freedom, economic prosperity, intellectual advancement and social reform, but the period also saw the steady decay of traditional religion, morality and social order.

There was more violence, oppression and cruelty than there used to be. Man tried to control his conduct by external means and not by self-control.

Humanism is the religion of the majority of intellectuals today. In Einstein?s world, there was no need for a Personal God. Matter and spirit were found to be one. Dualim was dead. Yes, after two thousand years of dogmatic belief that matter and spirit are opposed to each other!

Uncertainty, a fundamental agnosticism, a sense of uneasiness that we are hastening confusedly to unknown ends ?these are the characteristic features of our times. The future is incalculable.

In all cultures, the greatest gift of life is the dream of a higher life. The pursuit of perfection has been the dominant motive of human life. And yet look at the present scene: today the greatest menace to mankind comes from religious fundamentalism. And Islam is the prime cause. It is one religion which has refused to reform its way of life and thought.

One used to think that with the growth of education, there would be greater understanding among peoples. This was a false hope. The growth of Nazism led to the worst Holocaust of history and the Cold War showed that it is not easy to establish peace on earth.

Today we talk about the conflict of civilisations. As is to be expected, there are many well-meaning people who dismiss it as wild thinking. But it is real. It is as real as Nazism and the Holocaust.

Why are we opposed to conversions?

An answer to a thousand questions
Why are we opposed to conversions?
By Raghvendra Singh

Indian state and politics are going through the most decisive phase in post Janata movement era. How the state responds to the ongoing crises will be interesting to see. Whether the state is able to formulate and implement an independent policy for internal affairs is another serious matter that we need to observe seriously but not silently. Unfortunately, till now the UPA led ruling combine at the Centre hasn?t come out with any strong stand.

So from now onwards we can?t speak loudly if our brethren are being targeted and killed in an island nation....or if they are targeted in some South-East Asian country like Malaysia. A descent reason: Because we don?t interfere in the internal matters of any sovereign country; but at the same time European Union and other western countries have each and every right to advise and dictate us about our internal affairs. Because neither they are over from the mentality of treating us like colonised people nor our colonised, western ideas dominated minds are able to reject them as our masters, be it in foreign affairs or in internal affairs. This whole gamut of issues is relevant in the present context of conversions.

Conversions are something that have become benchmark for defining a secular identity. If you are standing in favour of conversions then you are undoubtedly secular otherwise you are considered as a Hindu fundamentalist, communal, orthodox and irrational creature knowing nothing about the secular sciences, secular humanities and other such secular knowledge systems. Though King or Queen of Britain may be the protector of the faith and at the same time a ceremonial head of a secular state.

Religious conversions are intricately linked with change in the value systems, belief and self defining capacity of an individual or a group. The point for our opposition to any kind of attempt to convert must be based on opposing these new value systems that are to be brought with the new religion. It is interesting to see what are the values that are associated with the new religion which is so desperate to expand its canvas? Do these values talk about peaceful coexistence? Is this new religion able to tolerate the diversities that are natural to be found in human society; and if the answer is yes then we must also look into the history of this religion in the society where it originated.

What have been the responses of this so called liberating religion to various social issues? How far this new religion has succeeded in providing a kind of solace to disgruntled and disenchanted individuals who are too tired with this materialistic world? How far this new religion will be successful in providing a much needed impetus to the process of nation building? These are few questions that we need to think about a thousand times before opposing this new religion. This so-called liberating religion has marched progressively in history with a proud (?) history of blood-shed, imperialism, colonization of several peaceful societies and then domination and exploitation followed. The very much liberal values that this religion is credited with to promote, have degenerated into unhindered pursuit of wealth, pleasure and material satisfaction. Fundamentalism of this religion and libertarian policies now being promoted by this religion go together. These are the same libertarian policies that have taken the Indian state into its grip. So today Indian state is happy to displace some people for the sake of development. To whom this development is meant for? Does it provide any relief to our ?farmers? or our Vanvasi bandhus whose voices have been forcefully suppressed to not to come out of the vacuum created around these groups?

Vanvasi societies are the most descent and self sufficient societies with limited desires. They represent the most egalitarian society with total absence of patriarchy. They are the kind of societies that are capable to show us the way in this modern era. They are not asking for anything from any messiah. What has Indian state done to them except marginalising and displacing them continuously. Now these liberating missionaries, born with a prejudice of white man?s burden are trying to convert them not for giving them any relief but to create another consumer class for profit thirsty industries and globalisation. After all, where from more and more profit is supposed to come from if some groups are not trained in using tooth pastes or perfumes or cars and other such products? The attempt to convert these groups is to familiarise them with a new life style.

The conversion works in a multifaceted way for these missionaries. Through these conversions they are also marching towards establishing the supremacy on whole world. Hence, it is our moral responsibility and duty to oppose any such attempt. If you want a highly individualistic society where no one is bothered to think about the deprived or downtrodden.....then you stand with these machineries. If you have become modern enough to just get satisfied with only your own food and material necessities and without sparing a minute for the people sleeping with empty stomachs then you stand by these missionaries. If you don?t have time to think about the displaced people, then, my dear...you stand by them. It is your moral responsibility to stand against these agencies. No one needs to tell this to you, my friend....it is upto you that how do you take a stand on such issues.

Does this religion believe in peaceful coexistence? If yes, then why are they not satisfied with the status quo? Why are they so desperate to eat every ?other? group and digest. Why they couldn?t reconcile with Jews? Why are they unable to live peacefully with Islam? Why are they scared that their identity is endangered even if they are the one with second largest followers in the world? Why couldn?t they find any lady Pope till now? What kind of a solace this religion has provided if the maximum number of mental patients are in western world? Why can?t they think about anything other than unipolar world?

What followed in Kandhamal after the murder of Swami Laxmanananda is an answer of the oppressed global minorities. Its an answer from those Vanvasi bandhus who don?t like any kind of external interference in their life style. The biased media, academicians, historians and the intelligentsia can?t suppress the truth. If Orissa is ?burning? so much then why an excellent victory was handed over to BJD-BJP alliance in recently concluded civic polls of the state?

Religion is not something to fight for. But when it comes to erase your thousands year old civilisation, identity and value system and you are sitting silently then your future generations will never pardon you for your cowardliness. Do you want to have a generation with confused identities? Do you want a generation with a fragmented family system? Rise up to the occasion and resist every such attempt that tries to destroy your civilisation and identity. If you are a confused mind about your own civilisation then please bother to look into an atlas and find out the early historical extent of the Indian civilisation. We believe in peaceful coexistence but not at the cost of our own existence. We are tolerant but not at the cost of intolerance from any other religious group.

An ideal religion should never show tolerance to intolerance. Religion is not only spiritual, it is intricately linked with culture also. It is this cultural umbrella that provides you and us a sense of belonging to a larger whole. But this belonging should not be confined only to rituals, we need to think about the poor, downtrodden and oppressed. Ethics are fine, you pray daily in morning and evening.....its also fine...but if you don?t....then too its fine. Doing something for our needy brethren is the most essential part of our religion. We should never forget that for a hungry person a piece of bread is the primary necessity and rest follows. Let?s take an oath to work for the uplift of our brethren. This will be the real service to god (if you are a theist),...to humanity (if you are a humanist)... to society. (if you are an atheist) and to ?base? (if you are an atheist and socialist). At the same time it will also be a fitting reply to the liberators desperately engaged in the task of liberation through tools of religious conversions.

What happened in Kandhamal?

Orissa under Attack?I
What happened in Kandhamal?
By Balbir K. Punj

Kandhamal district has a population of 6.48 lakh as per 2001 census. Scheduled Tribes constitute 51.96 per cent, Scheduled Caste?16.89 per cent. In religious terms Christians are 18.20 per cent and Muslims 0.3 per cent of population.

The alleged rape of a nun has been made into a global news. Such ?rape of nun by Hindu fascist? stories have turned out to be false in Jhabua, Jajjhar, Baripada in the past. They were dropped by the media like hot potatoes after being served like hot cakes.

The hapless tribals of Kandhamal are under seize. Relentless propraganda by the church and `secularists? has sullied the fair name of Orissa. The innocent adivasis are fighting with their back to the wall, to preserve their culture, honour, tradition, identity and in fact their very existence. The Kandhs, once the ?Kings,? are a pariah hunted by the CRPF in their own land today and painted as rapists and murderers outside. Hundreds of them are behind bars, without any charges, their homes are being raided, women dishonoured and hundreds have sought refuge in the forests to escape the police. There is none to speak for them. They obviously do not interest the NGO?s and human right activists, whose sole concern seem to be those charged with bomb blasts in the name of jehad.

Arraigned against the Kandh tribals and the State of Orissa are the missionaries of various denominations with worldwide reach and centuries of global experience in decimating local cultures. Backed with foreign funds and hands, the church is following its age-old time tested divisive agenda?split the local society in to hostile factions. A near civil war is the natural corollary. At immense human cost, the church has reaped a rich harvest of souls. The share of Christians in total population which was mere six per cent in 1971 in the district has grown three times, to 18.20 per cent in 2001. Most of the civil society has maintained an indifferent silence on this cultural genocide.

The alleged rape of a nun has been made into a global news. Such ?rape of nun by Hindu fascist? stories have turned out to be false in Jhabua, Jajjhar, Baripada in the past. They were dropped by the media like hot potatoes after being served like hot cakes. One sister Jacqueline Mary was said to have been raped in February 3, 1999. ?Orissa nun raped in moving car? screamed the Indian Express headline. Wadhwa Commission set up by the Central Government had inquired into the killing of Graham Stewart Staines and his two sons on 22-23 January 1999 in Keonjar district. The commission said in its report, ?Investigations, however, revealed that what sister Mary said in the FIR was not true?. It was a made up story ?? there was in fact no rape of Sister Mary ? B.B. Panda, DGP of police stated that the `rape of the nun? case was projected and highlighted all over the world and was also projected as an attack on Christians when in fact it was not true, and the case turned out to be false.?

Yet, we are witnessing another edition of it in Kandhamal. Although the nun did not attend the identification parade, and the Supreme Court has ruled out a CBI enquiry, the National Commission for Minorities has jumped into the fray. Is the church using the nun in question as a pawn in their great game of Chess?

The media portrayal of violence in Kandhamal in Orissa at national level has kicked off more heat and dust than light. It may be asked why Kandhamal district brings Orissa, an otherwise peaceful State, to banner headlines often? Are Christians being slaughtered like lambs by butchers called Bajrang Dal? Why did the media give a disproportionate coverage to violence in Orissa, when at the same time, violence killed greater number of people in Assam and displaced more than a lakh? Is it because, in Assam, the secular media will have to face certain uncomfortable questions like the clout the illegal Bangladeshi have created. It could not be plastered so easily on Bajrang Dal as 'genocide of minorities'. It will be far more politically correct to demonise Bajrang Dal in Orissa.

Why does Kandhamal, a poignantly picturesque and backward district of Orissa, go through phases of violence in 2007 and 2008? In 2008, it was the murder of Swami Laxmanananda Saraswati, and his three associates, which became the immediate cause of violence. The Kandhs, a scheduled tribe, who lend their name to the district, refused to buy the government theory that the Swami had been killed by the Maoists. The Kandhs, 90 per cent of whom are Hindus, have been much attached to the aged Swami for his four decades of struggle to preserve the Hindu folk.

Much later, Sabyasachi Panda, a Maoist leader owned up the killing. Panda, who strangely turned a blind eye to evangelism (remember Communism treats religion as opium of masses), said the Swami was eliminated for reviving Brahmanism. But he divulged an interesting clue by showing in preference for Christians. He said that overwhelming Christian community of Panas, an SC group, provide most cadres to Maoists in Orissa. Panda also clarified that Maoists as such believe in no religion. I don't know how to reconcile evangelism that believe in harvest of souls with Maoism (radical Communism) that believe there is no soul. In almost all European countries, wherever Communism succeeded the church had to go underground if not out of existence. But in Orissa perhaps it proves, there is some kind of 'strategic alliance' between church and Maoists. Church is a natural suspect in this heinous murder. Did the church outsource the Swami?s murder?

Kandhamal district has a population of 6.48 lakh as per 2001 census. Scheduled Tribes constitute 51.96 per cent, Scheduled Caste- 16.89 per cent. In religious terms Christians are 18.20 per cent and Muslims 0.3 per cent of population. Kandhamal violence can't be merely projected as a Hindu-Christian clash. The clash is a legacy from discord between Kandhs, (who are scheduled tribes, and 90 per cent of whom are still Hindus) and the Panas (who are scheduled castes, and 90 per cent of whom have converted to Christianity). As it is known a scheduled caste looses reservation benefits if he converts to, Christianity or Islam who believe in casteless society. But a scheduled tribe, a matter of ethnicity, retains the benefits regardless of his religion.

Some Panas (overwhelmingly Christians), desirous of reservation benefit, under the influence of missionaries had floated an organisation called 'Phulbani Kui Jana Kalyan Sangh' saying that their caste status should be changed in revenue records from Pana (SC) to Kui (ST). It is on the ground that they 'could speak the Kui language' that is spoken by the Kandhs, an ST group. The High Court directed the Orissa government to look into the matter. While 'Phulbani Kui Jana Kalyan Sangh' started a campaign that they should be treated as Kui (for obvious reservations benefits), many other Kui speaking organisations of Kandhs and others came forward to oppose their demand. The government clarified that there is no scope for Panas being treated as an ST, at par with Kandhs, because of Kui language.

Tribal Kandhs, view three groups caste groups viz,. Kumuti, Sundhi and Pana as their historical exploiters. While Kumuti was in business of money lending and purchase of tribal products, Sundhi sold liquor, Panas acted as intermediaries. Panas, having slowly picked up Kui, interpreted it to Kumuti and Sundhis who spoke Oriya. In 1920s, when the early Christian missions were set up in Kandhamal, Panas fell in the trap. While Panas, improved their socio-economic condition in the process, the condition of the Kandhs deteriorated.

But very few Kandhs budged from their ancestral faith. In late 1960s, when Swami Laxmananda, opened his ashram in the region, trying to keep Hindu folks together and bringing back those who have been converted through gullible means, Kandhs responded positively. The tribe of secularists who claim that tribal folks are not Hindus, they have no religion, should tell why Kandhs revered Laxmanand Saraswati?

Are tribals Hindus ? According to the church, they are not and hence are available to them for ?harvest? for the Lord. This question was best answered by Gandhiji. Responding to an query from Dr. Chesterman whether his (Gandhiji?s) objection to conversion applied to areas like the Kond Hills where the aboriginal races worshiped animals, his unhesitating reply was, ?Yes. It does apply, because I know that in spite of being described as animists these tribes have from times immemorial been absorbed in Hinduism. They are, like the indigenous medicine, of the soil, and their roots lie deep there. But you can only endorse this if you feel that Hinduism is as true as Christianity. I hold that all religions are true but imperfect inasmuch as they are presented through human agency and bear the impress of the imperfections and frailties of the human being. My quarrel with missionaries is that they think no religion other than Christianity is true.? (Harijan, 25.2.39)

Why this war on Hinduism?

Debate
Why this war on Hinduism?
By George Thundiparambil(This is an article written in response to Atam Vetta?s ?A dialogue between the Hindu diaspora and American Christians? which appeared in Organiser dated October 9. It is the first part of a two-part response to the call given by Shri K. S. Sudarshan for suggestions to counter the evangelists in India. The writer is an Indian and a free-lance writer and translator based in Freiburg, Germany. His interest is religion. He can be contacted at george.thundiparambil@gmail.com)

What would you do if someone declared a war on you? Old wisdom says there are two options in such a scenario. Resist and fight back with all your might, even if the enemy is the strongest of giants. Or, if you cannot stomach the fight, switch sides and join the enemy!

In the fight against evangelists and jihadis, Hindus too have the choice. Fight and save dharma, or convert and submit to adharma! The enemies are not targeting the Hindus? material wealth, but their spiritual wealth accumulated over numerous millennia by the immense yagas of their ancestors.

Shri K. S. Sudarshan?s request for suggestions to counter the war of conversions declared by the evangelists is legitimate and the need of the hour. But Atam Vetta?s advice (Organiser, October 9) to make friends with Christian extremists of the West sounds silly, if not utterly ludicrous. He advises Hindus to initiate a ?Christian-Hindu bhai bhai? campaign. Vetta?s proposal could be extended to Al Qaeda and pray that even though the jihadi attacks would not stop immediately, there is a hope!

Even if the enemy were your brother, Hindu wisdom advises against making compromises with adharma. The greatest expositor of dharma, Sage Vyasa, speaks at the end of Mahabharata: ?Dharma is that by which everything endures. It is the substratum of everything. It is untranslatable into any language. Through desire for wealth or out of greed or fear, do not give up dharma, aye even to save your own life. Dharma is eternal happiness.?

If the Christian and Islamic clergy do not propagate and force their ideologies down the throats of unsuspecting or helpless people through dubious means, or do not force them to stay on with censure and punishment, their religions would be wiped out. Europe is a primary example.

The underlying scriptural dynamics that make Muslims target Hindus is the same as those which make the Christians target Hindus. From the Hindu point of view, there is no difference perceivable between these two enemies, since it is the fundamental Hindu belief system that these two oppose. These two hostile ideologies, flawed because they are not based on human experience but on spurious and fantastic literature, are based on a priori illusion that human beings are genetically flawed and can be redeemed only by symbolic conversion and the acceptance of their bookish deity. These two religious groups target Hindus because they cannot tolerate the ideas tacitly mooted by the Hindu way of life that human beings are originally good and that dharma is innate and natural.

The phenomenal Hindu tolerance of other creeds, even of Christianity and Islam, arise from the fundamental belief that humans are basically innocent and that dharma is the innate element that connects with eternity. Individual freedom finds its utmost expression in human existence and propels every individual by his/her karma towards redemption and ultimate happiness. Ironically, it is this belief itself that makes the Hindu vulnerable to these two hostile religions, for the Hindus mistake these creeds for dharma and think of these two religions as valid as their own. This is the fundamental mistake Hindus should avoid in their defence against Christian and Islamic aggression.

Islam and Christianity by their fundamentally mooted concept of natural evil are natural enemies of the Hindu notion that humans, like all other beings, are born with the inherent right to redemption by their own means, whatever it may be. So, at the crux of things, there is a fundamental gulf between the Hindu standpoint and the Christian-Islamic standpoint that can never be bridged. Christianity and Islam sense this gulf much more than the Hindus, because their unnatural ideologies rightly perceive the mere continuance of the Hindu as a threat to their sustenance. For these primitive but acute intellects, the mere existence of the Hindu is a danger, because they unwittingly accept that their aberrant creed cannot subsist and grow naturally side by side with the Hindu (the natural religionists) without the aggressive pursuance of their ideological objectives such as evangelisation or jihad, combined with moral police, inquisition and the like.

For instance, if the Christian and Islamic clergy do not propagate and force their sterile ideologies down the throats of unsuspecting or helpless people through dubious means, or do not force them to stay on with censure and punishment, their religions would be wiped out in decades. Europe is a primary example. They also know that if all kinds of people were to become educated and come to know their rights and discern what is right and wrong (as mentioned in Genesis), the only religions that would continue to thrive would be Hinduism and all those natural religions that assume humankind and all natural existence as innocent and originally good. Moreover, they also know that the followers of natural religions can easily and fearlessly conduct pious lives without the need of a professional clergy or organised institutions to preach goodness or to carry out acts of compassion. Goodness and compassion are innate in every creature, at least as long as there are no professional god men walking around preaching original evil and hate. But most Hindus, like Atam Vetta, are not aware of the real nature of the enemy, or the war declared upon them.

Hindu wisdom advises against making compromises with adharma.

The USA might remain a world super power for a long time to come, and the NeoCons (or by whatever names these Christian fanatics are called) might have a say in the US government for all time to come, but what can a Hindu (under attack) in India gain by making friends with these insane men, who are practically the same kind as all bin Ladens of this world? George Bush?s fight against Islamic terrorism might evoke a false sense of camaraderie with him and his entourage, but it is worthwhile to keep in mind that Bush is the major member of a big team from all over the world collecting money and resources for organisations and individuals who have vowed to convert all the remaining heathens of this world.

One might ask at this point: Why this obsession with the heathen? The motivational reason is twin pronged and a bit abstract, but nothing beyond easy comprehension by a simile. The first is based on cause and effect: if there is light, even a faint light, total darkness cannot prevail. Dharma is light and adharma is darkness. As long as the Hindu exists, the natural goodness that is dharma exists, and in the presence of dharma, adharma can prevail neither conceptually nor qualitatively. Darkness can prevail only in the absence of light. Therefore, for Christianity and Islam to prevail, they have to annihilate Hindu dharma. That is the innate force that drives the two adharmic forces to target Hinduism as the remaining and only hindrance to pursuing their scriptural objectives. Hindu dharma is the lamp these two asuric forces want to extinguish, so that their evil ideologies can prevail. Unfortunately, many Hindus fail to perceive their enemies as the forces of darkness.

The second prong of the enemy motivation is related to their spurious books, which verbally buttress the necessity to suppress the light of dharma. It is expressly mentioned in the Bible that the Christian objective of establishing perpetual adharma (?Kingdom of Heaven? in their terms) on earth can occur only if the remaining heathens either convert or perish. For the NeoCon fanatics, the two things that stand between them and their scriptural objective, which is the materialisation of the prophecy of doom (biblical apocalypse), are the Hindu heathens and the remaining stable ecology of the planet. According to their diabolical book, their Prophet of doom (Jesus Christ) will appear before them and take them to the netherworld of sinners only when no heathen exists on this earth and our blessed planet earth is completely destroyed.

As long as a Hindu lives and as long as a virgin tree stands on this earth, the two demonic religions and their ideologies cannot prevail. They know it, and hence the declaration of war on Hindus. The only redemption these two alien and hostile religions can offer human beings is the eternity of doom (as looked forward to by Christians and Muslims), which Hindus call adharma. It is the dharma of all Hindus to save Sanatana Dharma and offer all humankind the eternity of freedom and goodness. In order for dharma to prevail, all the Hindus have to do is to remain unconquered; whatever might be its costs. Not to let the light go out, so to speak. For this purpose, it is the imminent need of the Hindu community to organise and chart out an overarching and global plan to combat and subdue the enemies who scheme and work for their extinction.

What really happened in Kandhamal
By Ashok Sahu I.P.S. (Retd.)

On December 23, 2007 defying the Superintendent of Police, the Church authorities pitted tents and canopies for X-mass celebration on the disputed plot and also torched one hotel and two shops in Brahmanigaon belonging to Hindus, in the very presence of the District Superintendent of Police.

Even orders from the High Court have not been implemented by the State Government. Surprisingly, the National Minority Commission has given a clean chit to the Chief Minister but blamed the District Administration for the recent violence, as if the Chief Minister has no control on the latter.

Kandhamal, literally an area inhabited by the Kandha tribes in Orissa and grouped as a district since 1994, all of a sudden came to limelight on the eve of X-mass celebrations last year end. The Kui Co-ordination Committee had given a protest call for ?Bundh? on December 25 and 26 2007, having failed to get their genuine grievances redressed by the State Government. Their grievances were directed against the converted ?Pana? Christians who in order to retain their privileges under the Constitution of India have been contriving to get re-enlisted as Scheduled Tribe by manipulating a notification by the President of India under Article 342 of the Constitution. It appears that the dates for mass protest were selected deliberately to embarrass the local Missionary authorities who traditionally utilised X-mass celebrations for mass conversion among the poor tribes. Besides the aforesaid manipulation, the dubious manner in which the tribal lands were grabbed by the Church authorities at the behest of high officials in the Revenue Department under Orissa Government, had also agitated the Kandha tribe in general. They were revolting against the Pana leaders like Minister Padmanabh Behera, M.L.A. Sugriva Singh, and Pana Christian bureaucrats like Radhakanta Nayak, Isaac Behera, John Nayak, Sailendra Pradhan etc. during last many occasions. Minister Padmanabh Behera had to resign in the wake of the recent violence in Kandhamal district, when the fate of the Congress Rajya Sabha MP Radhakanta Nayak appears to be getting brighter with the blessings of Sonia Gandhi who herself is a Catholic Christian. The Union Home Minister Shivraj Patil was the first visitor to the affected areas but conspicuous exclusion of Brahmanigaon, the epicenter of the series of recent violence and disorder from his itinerary has been the subject of severe criticism in the press and the public.

The protest ?Bundh? would perhaps passed off unnoticed outside the State, but for the obstinacy of the converted Christians to defile the Puja Mandap in Brahmanigaon, an altar where traditionally the Hindus used to celebrate Durga Puja every year. Over last two decades, the Hindus in Brahmanigaon were reduced to a minority by mass proselytisation in the district, particularly under the Daringbadi Block, the native village of notorious Radhakanta Nayak. On December 22, 2007, John Nayak, a retired IPS officer had informed the local administration to remain alert for a communal onslaught in the area. This is also confirmed by the National Minority Commission, which visited the affected areas and released its findings to the press in New Delhi on January 17, 2008. On December 23 defying the Superintendent of Police, the Church authorities pitted tents and canopies for X-mass celebration on the disputed plot and also torched one hotel and two shops in Brahmanigaon belonging to Hindus, in the very presence of the District Superintendent of Police. The following day, Swami Laxmanananda Saraswati on his way to Brahmanigaon, was ambushed by busloads of hooligans arranged by Radhakanta Nayak in his village at Dasingbadi under Daringbadi Block. About 200 armed converted Christians attacked Swamijee injuring him and his armed security personnel, driver etc. This was enough to ignite the already surcharged atmosphere to go on indiscriminate attack on the Pana Christians and their leaders. It may be mentioned here that the Kandha tribe are a peace loving people but once rubbed on the wrong side can be very violent and difficult to be pacified. The tense situation was further compounded by an unprovoked lathi charge on the followers of Swamijee who had congregated at the Daringbadi police station in support of their beloved Swamijee who had spent 40 years in company of the Kandha tribe to protect them from the clutches of the proselytisers, and long cherished tribal culture of the Kandha. There were murderous attacks on the Swamijee even earlier engineered by the Church in 1967, 1969, 1976, 1978, 1982, 1985, and 1995.

The local churches get lot of foreign contributions to promote proselytisation under direct tutelage of the USA, Canada, Australia and many European countries. There are NGOs like the World Vision, YMCA, NISWAS and Jana Kalyan Sangha, which get lots of financial aid even from the government, which are promoting religious conversion of the Pana and Kandha community. There has been a long-standing dispute between the converted Pana Christians and the Kandha tribes in matters of employment under reserved quota for government jobs, distribution of land holdings earmarked for tribal development and illegal occupation of these by the Church authorities, and conversion to Christianity by fraud, allurement and cheating. Despite many protests and representations to the State Chief Minister, their grievances remained unattended and unfulfilled. Even orders from the High Court have not been implemented by the State Government. Surprisingly, the National Minority Commission has given a clean chit to the Chief Minister but blamed the District Administration for the recent violence, as if the Chief Minister has no control on the latter. It may be recalled that the Pana Caste are not the indigenous population of the district, rather they have migrated from the neighbouring Nayagarh and Ganjam districts from pre-Independence, mostly after being converted to Christianity. They have been learning the Kui dialect which is the mother tongue of the Kandha in order to claim and confuse their class identity against which the indigenous Kandha tribe have been revolting since 1997. Taking advantage of the sporadic damage done to the Church properties during the recent provocated disturbances, the Pana Christians who are notorious for being very ?cunning? and unscrupulous have reportedly torched many of their thatched Churches, themselves with the hope to attract more funds from abroad and grant from the government under relief for damage during ?communal strife?. However, six churches and more than sixty thatched prayer centres were shown damaged to qualify for relief grants. More than 350 Hindus were rendered homeless who were in minority surrounded by the Pana Christians in Brahmanigaon, Kinarinuagaon, Godapur, Katingia and Daringbadi. Three Hindu temple and more than two thousand ?Dharani Penu? sites of worship of Kandha tribes have been reduced to dust by the converted Christians. One Khageswar Mallik aged about 30 years was lynched to death by stoning by Pana Christians comprising mostly women. More than 10 Maoists were killed in an encounter when they attacked the Brahmanigaon police post, but as usual, the radicals dragged the dead bodies of their colleagues fearing identification. One dead body from among the Maoists has been recovered who is suspected to be an outsider and not belonging to the near-by villages. More than 130 persons have been arrested most of whom are Hindus because; the Church authorities had prepared ahead of the incidents what to write and whom to implicate. Most of the Hindu victims had fled to the nearby forests being afraid of the Police officers from among the converted Christians. The partisan attitude of the Police in bringing the culprits to book might further delay the slow process of restoration of peace and normalcy in the district. Indiscriminate arrests of innocent Hindus under political pressure would only delay the peace process.

Now, the basic issues need be addressed without bothering about the political stakes. Nevertheless, the BJD, major partner in the government is trying to profit by blaming the saffron brigade, which would in long run benefit their common enemy that is Congress. Delay in redress of the genuine grievances of the Kui speaking Kandha tribes would only complicate the situation for which the government will have to pay a heavy price. Despite many distorted versions of the incidents in Kandhamal district, the fact remains that these violence were mainly due to dispute between the Pana Christians and the Kandha tribes over local issues with socio-economic and political consequences. Before the nation came to know of the incidents, distorted, highly motivated and grossly misleading versions were given wide publicity to tarnish the secular image of India by the electronic media and the English print media transmitted from abroad like one Angana Chatterji. Such distortions will only compound and precipitate the communal strife in the region.

Rape of minors by Missionary School officials in Orissa

Hardly the wound inflicted by the Pana Christians had healed and the normalcy was limping back in the district of Kandhamal, fresh incidents of rape on tribal minors are reported from other parts in Orissa. On January 12, 2008 (Saturday) Dipa and Padmini, two minor tribal students were reportedly being brutally raped by the Director of Agate Manor International School that houses ?orphans? and homeless children from tribal pockets. The other accomplice in the crime was his 38-year-old younger brother named Anargala Lima. The incident was witnessed by another minor tribal girl Rukmani Hembrem (10 years old), a student of the same school who out of panic and shock fled from the sight lest she would also be a similar victim in the hands of the same perpetrator. Terrified Rukmani in a forlorn state was detected, the next day, by the villagers in Talpadar Tikra, a small village 25 kilometers from Bargarh district headquarters. She narrated the incident to them and sought protection. The villagers when confronted, the Principal, Mr. G. Appa Rao, demanded medical treatment for the two victim girls, and handing over to the local police. As the tension was mounting, both the Principal Mr. Rao and Director Samarpana Lima (43) along with his brother Anargala Lima (38), allegedly the co-rapist in the incident, all ran for their life. The Principal had managed the disappearance of the victim girls who could not be traced even by the Superintendent of Police. In order to calm down the enraged villagers, the SP assured to bring the culprits to book within twenty-four hours. There is tension in the area and people are agitated against the Missionaries that in the name of service they collect huge sums to help the poor and rob the minor girls of their womanhood and deny them the minimum dignity that a woman deserves in a civilised society. The villagers have lodged an FIR with the local police alleging rape and disappearance of the victims by Samarpana Lima and his brother Anargala Lima. What is disturbing the villagers is the safety of the lone witness to the gruesome rape by two fathers like figures on minor girls. The local SP has reportedly taken the lone witness Rukmani to his personal custody. Rape victims Dipa and Padmini are reportedly missing from the school. Many such incidents are reportedly happening but going unreported because the Christian Missionaries are having influence over the local police officials with their money power.

Media mis-propaganda
One Angana Chatterji was one of the first to write in the press distorting the whole episode that was published in a section of the English print media. Earlier also, in 1999 a Christian nun was reportedly raped by Hindus in Baripada Bus Stand which was falsified by subsequent scrutiny of the facts in the incident. In 2002, in Mandasur one tribal girl was raped and after pregnancy was killed by the local church priest which was initially distorted by the misreporting in the Press. Even the reported killing of the Stains at Manoharpur village in 1999 was grossly distorted that even Hindus started believing the stories until in the courts of law these are gradually getting unmasked. Hence, mis-propaganda to defame the image of India or the Hindu community at large does not pay in the end. It only helps the mischief mongers to fish in troubled water.

Time to bridle the religious impulse

Think it over
Time to bridle the religious impulse

By M.S.N. Menon

Religions divide men. Politics divide men. Economics divide men. And culture divides men. Then, what is it that brings them together? The instinct of the herd?

Religions, the God-men tell us, are engaged in saving souls, in guiding men to salvation. But, how can these ?men of God?, who denounce the faith of others every day of their life, ever be a guide to mankind?

So, is there no hope for mankind? There is. But it has to begin with by making religion a personal affair, by banning the politicisation of religion.

Here are two religions?Christianity and Islam?which do not believe in the brotherhood of man. How can they, when they denounce men of other faiths?

?Religion, which was meant to make us better and nobler,? says Nehru, ?has made people behave like beasts.? They still behave like beasts, when seized with religious frenzy.

The point is: If religions turn human beings into beasts, what have the humanity done in the last thousands of years to prevent these beasts from usurping the power of the state to promote their beastliness? Very little. I think it is time to contain the beasts among us. And it is time to put religion on a new course.

For about 1500 years, Europe lived in the ?Age of Darkness?. This was the work of the beasts. They made it a felony to question the veracity and ?supernatural authority? of the Christian scriptures. In Islam, the punishment for apostasy was death.

The Reformation, the Renaissance and the Age of Reason finally broke the Christian spell over Europe. They brought light and reason. No such reform came the way of Islam to rescue it from the ulemas and mullahs. The mullahs still rule the world of Islam. In fact, Islam has remained impervious to every reform. ?How can we change the Word of God???this is the argument. True, the ?Word? has not changed, but the acts have changed. Read the fatwas?that is where the action takes place. They show the alarming extent of the distortions that have taken place in Islam.

If we have thus found no way to control the beasts in our times, it is largely because the beasts are under the protection and patronage of the rulers?the new priests of our times. They want the votes of the beasts.

Today the whole fraternity of evil men?the beasts, politicians, criminals?are in a league. They help each other to stay in power. Did we anticipate this? No. We were told that the disciples of Mahatma Gandhi could do no wrong. We believed it. But such things were said before?that the disciples of Jesus Christ could do no wrong, that disciples of Prophet Mohammed could do no wrong. We know the consequences of such naivety. But did it prevent us from believing the claim of the Marxists? No. We believed their claims too!

Where men have failed, the Law should have spoken. But the makers of the Indian Constitution did not ban the men of religion from politics after the horrendous experience of India?s Partition. But that is to assume that they were sensitive to the tragedy. They were not. Here was the most terrible and traumatic event in the history of India and it passed by our Constitution makers and academia without making the least impression on them! Did they try to control the beasts through constitutional measures? They did not. In fact, they tried to protect the beasts. We are all paying the price for this folly. And our academic community has remained a mute witness of this continuing folly.

Religion and politics have for long been separate among Hindus. Why? Because Hinduism is the most mature of all religions. But our Constitution makers were not aware of it. Which explains why they did not insist on the separation of religion and politics. What is worse, they allowed Islam to control every aspect of a Muslim?s life, thus introducing a theocracy within the larger framework of our democracy. An act of subversion of our Constitution? Yes.

The beasts are thus trying to drag mankind to the days of tribal wars, with their tribal gods egging on the tribes to destroy each other. We cannot allow this perversion to continue. Religions are of no use to us today to understand the universe we live in. If it serves any other purpose, it is time to say so. The religious impulse is no doubt a powerful social force. It can promote the ideal of a socialised state. But that is not the goal the ?men of God? are pursuing today. Some have gone to the extent of terrorising the humanity!
